ROLLO Contemporary Art launched in 2005 with The Writer, a public art installation on Hampstead Heath of a table and chair by Giancarlo Neri. Based originally in Islington, the gallery moved to Albemarle Street in 2007 before finding its permanent home in Fitzrovia in 2008.
As well as holding solo exhibitions of gallery artists, the program at ROLLO focuses on thematic group exhibitions exploring trends in current art practice.
A major focus at the gallery is representing women artists. In 2009 the gallery curated a three part touring exhibition The Body in Women’s Art Now, reviewing themes in the representation of the body in women’s art from the year 2000. A three part book was published by ROLLO Contemporary Art to accompany the exhibition series with original essays contributed by specialist art historians such as Tracey Warr, and Harriet Riches.
In addition to the exhibitions held within the ROLLO Contemporary Art gallery space, ROLLO continues to organise outside projects, aiming to bring art to innovative spaces to reach a wider audience and make art more accessible. ROLLO’s exhibitions have been shown at The Royal Academy of Arts, The Arts Club and in 2008 ROLLO collaborated with Selfridges department store to exhibit three art installation projects by artist Claire Morgan in the department store space.
ROLLO Contemporary Gallery London supports the Alzheimer’s Society, donating a percentage of proceeds from all sales at our art exhibitions in London to the charity.
